Mt. Saint Helens, Washington

craterrim.jpg
Our lunch and base area. To get out of the wind,
we had to duck behind the edge of the crater.
The brown area below Ron's feet is an ice shelf.
We had to be careful not to step on it.
If it were to let go, we would have nothing below us
for about 2000 feet!

A view of Mt. Rainier in the background,
Spirit Lake in the middle,
and the Lava Dome.
The dome is approx. 900 feet above the crater floor.

Glissading down the snowfields is MUCH easier
than hiking up them.
But.. it's kinda cold too.
